Crafting in Advent... Coasters

Happy Wednesday All!

One more week and Christmas is upon us. If you're like me, you're all spent out! As in, no more $$ for the "oh I forgot" gift, or "White Elephant" kinda thing.

I'm here today with an easy-peasy craft for you to do. I got the idea on Pinterest from a blogger called Beneath My Heart. I've linked you to the Pin on my Advent & Christmas Board. Click on it, and you will be taken to her blog.

What you will need for this craft:
  • Porcelain Tiles (4x4)
  • Fun Cocktail Napkins
  • Thin Cork
  • Mod Podge (matte or glitter)
  • Mod Podge ClearAcrylic Sealer Spray - Gloss
  • 1/8th inch ribbon
  • Glue Gun
  • Craft Sponge

First, you make sure your tiles are clean. A set of ten tiles at Lowes is around $18. Four coasters in a set. Then you dip your craft sponge into the Mod Podge and put a thin layer on the tile, then stick the napkin down. I cut the napkins so that only one layer went onto the tile and pretty close to 4x4 as well.

After the above dries a bit (I would say an hour. I was doing other things, so it went by quickly.), trim the excess napkins around the edges and put another thicker layer of Mod Podge on the tile. I used the glitter version on these light color coasters. FYI - I tried the glitter on the darker napkin version and you can not see the design well, so I used the plain matte version for my second go.

After that dried (honestly it was over night, because we have so much going on, that is when I got back to it.), I decided I didn't like how the edges looked and I added this 1/8th inch ribbon from Stampin Up!  I love how it turned out. I simply used my glue gun and went all the way around.

Just so you can see the difference, the one on the left is not trimmed with the ribbon.

Here is the finished set. Well, actually, I still have to add a 4x4 piece of cork to the bottom, but it's not here yet. If it comes before the post goes live, I will add a picture.

Finish the set off by stacking them and tying a nice ribbon around them (you know how they come in a store), maybe pair with a nice bottle of wine and a pretty bag with tissue paper... Great hostess gift.

I hope you found this post helpful in some way.
Hugs & Blessings,
Emily

Crafting in Advent - Mason Jar Luminaries

Good morning.
I hope you are enjoying your Advent Season. We are here at the Davis house.
We are on a budget, like so many of our friends, and we make our decor/gifts (not all). Yesterday I told you that we had a craft day with friends as part of Advent.

One of the crafts we made were these fun, and inexpensive Mason Jar Luminaries.

What you will need for this craft:
  • Mason Jars (various sizes)
  • Glue or Mod Podge
  • Craft Sponge
  • Glitter
  • Washi Tape or Stickers
  • Ribbon
This is such an easy and fun craft.  You simply take Elmer's Glue or Mod Podge and a craft sponge, like this one:

And you put glue on the inside of your mason jar. You can put it as high up the side of the jar as you like. Here is a picture of the supplies and the jars in progress.

Christopher and I made.
You pour glitter inside the jar and roll the glitter around the inside. We dumped our excess onto paper plates (it was easier if the children each had a paper plate).  Note, there is a small striped jar that we actually put a line of glue, then glitter, and let it dry a bit... then repeated the process as we added color.  You can see it in progress in the photo above, but the finished jar is in the last photo.

These, my friend and her children made.
How fun for the children to use all kinds of glitter and washi tape. And if you are like me, this craft cost me nothing extra because I am a canner and have plenty of jars AND I'm a crafter, so I had tons of glitter and glue/modpodge.

Finished product.
Afterwards, we put votive candles in the jars. I don't have a picture, bt they look very pretty all lit up. Inexpensive and fun family time. Extra special with friends added.

I hope you are enjoying these craft posts.

Hugs & Blessings,
Em

Crafting in Advent.... Christmas Trees

Ahem.... dusting off the cobwebs to share some crafts for Advent.
Hi there,

How have you all been?
I miss you. I miss blogging and being creative... AND... well, let's just concentrate on today.

This year, we are really trying to take time out to be with family and friends.  If you read my family blog, you will note that I have figured out I try to do too much. So this year, we are concentrating on what Advent is really about... AND on having fun with it all.

Every year, I put Advent Cards in the Advent Calendar. There are scattered treats and a gag gift or two, but the cards is really where it's at.  This year, we changed them up a bit. I add to them as Christopher gets older. The morning of the 10th, he brought me the "Make a Christmas Craft" card and said, "how convenient"! haha

Last Thursday, we invited friends over to Craft with us. So much fun. There is still glitter and garland all over my downstairs and I kinda like that the house is so sparkly. I planned three crafts: Christmas Trees, Coasters, and Mason Jar Luminaries.

Today, we are going to talk about the trees. Here is my Advent & Christmas Board from Pinterest. There are several tree-craft pins. This is the pin that started it - Handmade Christmas Trees.  I take that back, years ago, I saw this post Santa Cone Decor from the Thrifty Decor Chick, and I knew one day I'd make some cone trees.

We had pom moms, gold-sprayed pine cones, candy canes, red and gold balls, bells, buttons, ribbon, glitter, glue guns, garland and I really have no idea what all else!  The best part was that the sweet four year old (I think she's four) had the best trees. Sure, I helped her with them, but she designed them. Love that. HAHA

These my friend and her family took home.

I made.
Christopher made.
See the monstrosity, I made that (the kids painted the acorns).
How cute is she? Toldya it was the best one.
How'd we do it? Well, we had both green floral cones and cardboard cones we made (thanks to Kristin). Um, I found out, I'm not good at the cardboard cone making (you're welcome). All the trees were different, so there is no REAL how-to, just your imagination and a glue gun. Lots of glue.

Tools:
  • Glue Gun.
  • Good scissors.
  • Wire cutters.
  • Craft items you want to stick on a tree, cones to make the trees.
  • Paper to cover the table with.
  • Your imagination, laughter and Friends.
Anywhooooo (here is a picture of one of the pages of cards (printed onto business cards). You can choose whatever activity you like. If I know we have certain plans, that card goes into that particular date.  If you want the file, leave a comment and your email and I will send you the file.

And here is the list I drew from this year, for my cards:

Tomorrow's post will be about the luminaries. Wednesday - the coasters. Check back for them. You could make either in a day and have cute grandparent gifts or hostess gifts.

Laura, from Day By Day, In Our World, asked me to link up with her 40 Days of Seeking Him link-up. So I am.  There are many great posts there. Please click on the attached link and check it out:

Stampin Up! June & July Paper Pumpkin Cards

Happy Tuesday All!
I am catching up on posting. WOOHOO. I mean if it is 100+ outside, you stay indoors. Right? So I've got some time.  Anywhooo...

This first picture is of the two types of cards that I made in the June Paper Pumpkin Set called Happy Thoughts. Love this set. So fun. Everything is included, including the envelope liners. So classy.

This second picture is of the two types of cards I made for the July Paper Pumpkin Set called Thanks A Latte. So cute.  In their samples, all the images were straight, I turned a few of them for fun. I mean - you know, I'm different. Always.

You can get 50% off the first two months of a Paper Pumpkin Subscription. Check it out.
And since I'm a new Stampin Up! Demonstrator, if you are interested, click on my link to get your subscription and help me grow my business:  Em's Paper Pumpkin Link

StampinUp - Watercolor Wishes

Happy Monday Night All,

I finally got a chance to play with Watercolor Wishes a couple weeks ago. While my guys were watching a show I didn't want to watch, I made 20 cards. So fun!! All you do is provide the adhesive.

I just got back from the Stamping Factory class @ Christi's and realized I hadn't posted about this kit.

Cards of various sizes. All light and airy. Simple to make in a couple hours (or less, my hands don't always work well).

Check it out. I mean, where can you buy 20 cards for $35.00?  These kits are a great way to get started making cards OR a great way to replenish stock!

Have a great rest of your evening.

Love & Hugs,
Em

Reacquainting Myself with StampinUp!

Happy Friday All!
Lately I've been getting reacquainted with StampinUp! I started with them in 2006 and really had fallen away from using them. Lately I've been using them a lot. I mean - it's so easy to make and match and bang out some really cute cards. Sure, coloring images is fun, but I have more colored images than I care to admit and they are NOT on cards yet.
So anyway... I met Christi Beck at a homeschool field trip and I'd been looking for a local stamping group. She's awesome!  She has several events every month. And here are the kinds of things we do. If you live in or near Fort Worth, check her out -
This past Monday, she had Christmas in July. We made four of each card and a cute little bag. AND she provides the tutorials to all. Here is her blog post about it!

To help with festivities, I made these cookies:

This is a card I made a couple of weeks ago, using the Bokeh technique. If you click on the link HERE. I think it will go to the post on her blog. If not, search on Bokeh and you will find it (and a tutorial).

Last but not least, I love love love this card. It uses the Sprinkles of Life Stamp Set & Tree Builder Punch. SO CUTE!!!

Check out her different events and come play! I am so enjoying it.
Blessings,
Em

Stamping Boutique FaceBook Challenge - June

Hi all,

For a while I will be posting on Two blogs, here and on WP.
I am determining whether I want to move my blog back to blogger. It's a principle thing.
You see, if we have to be fair in business, I don't think WordPress should have put rainbows everywhere. As a business, they should recognize that not everyone agrees with them.

And so - while I am discerning, I will post both places. Pray for me.

So - on The Stamping Boutique's FaceBook Page, they host a monthly challenge. This month's was "Use something that starts with a B and any TSB image for a chance to win 3 images of your choice.  Example- button, blue, butterfly, bow..."

Card Recipe ~ Image Get Well Beary Soon, by The Stamping Boutique
Ink: Copic Markers
Paper: base is PTI.  DP is from my scrap bin.
Embellishments: The buttons are from my button stash and the flowers are in a big jar,
I think K&CO. I could be wrong.

My B's are - Bear, Buttons and in the top one Blue. I think I'm covered. lol

Anyway - I hope and pray you have a great evening and that you have enjoyed these cards.
Blessings,
EMily

From the Heart Stamps -

Hi there...

You know how you mean to do something and then you don't.  At From The Heart Stamps (FTHS) there is a monthly Free-if-you-play along image. One month to create a card. Sigh. I had the four cards below made... and guess what - I forgot to upload. Well, it was more that I was overcome by events BUT I still didn't get it uploaded.

Further, they have a weekly Sketch Challenge. Ahem. All four - in the #110 Challenge layout. And I didn't get them up... well, you get the picture.

Card Recipe ~ Image Apple Blossom Birds by FTHS
Ink: Prismacolor Pencils and Gamsol
Paper: base is PTI.  DP is from my scrap bin. I cut the little pieces into banners.

Embellishments: Pearls & Crystals.

I have to be honest, I will likely spruce them up a bit... find a place for some ribbon or something.

Anyway - if you want to play along with the Monthly Free Image Challenge, go HERE.
And - if you want to play along with the weekly Sketch Challenge (#111 this week), go HERE. During the Summer, they are every two weeks. So - you have six days!

Opal The Optimist - Stampingbella

Happy Happy Day!

Whatcha doing?  Me, nothing... blogging. HA I hope and pray your day is great.

So - a few months ago I played along in a challenge, and I created a wine tag. So when I saw this uptown girl Opal the Optimist, I knew she had to be on a wine tag.

Do you love it?  Maybe love is too bold. But I really really really love it because I love my fellas. Plus, I'm really really really trying to get better at Prisma Pencils.

Card Recipe ~ Image Opal the Optimist, by StampingBella.
Ink: Prismacolor Pencils and Gamsol
Paper: base is PTI.  DP is from my scrap bin. There are two DP's.
Ribbon: StampinUp Yellow Grosgrain & Orange/White Twine
Embellishments: The tag is from the StampinUp! May Paper Pumpkin Kit.
And the flowers are The Paper Studio.

The whole tag is 11 inches long and three inches wide. The part that goes over the bottle's neck is about 3.5 inches, with .5 inch folded over to help the tag hold (used my score pal).

I think it will make a great gift for someone. I plan on making some Christmas Wine Tags and Birthday ones too. Who doesn't LOVE a great bottle of wine?

Check out the Bellarific Challenge, posted on Fridays on the StampingBella Blog. That is where this tag will be next week.

Anywhooo, I'm off to enjoy my day.

Love, Hugs & Blessings,

Em

PaperPumpkin Fun May 2015 - Stamping Up!

Hi there.

Hope you are well.

Do you ever hear about something and you think, "I really want to try that?" Well, I finally did, and people - I'm so happy I did.  SO FUN!

There was a special on the Pamper Pumpkin Monthly Subscription. I think I got May for $5. How fun.

And so - it came like this:

When you open it looks like this:

They thank you for buying:

All of the pieces you need come in the kit:

This is a snippet of what I made:

This time, I followed the instructions because I'd never done a card kit before. And to be honest, at first I thought, it's so uninspiring. I'm a free-styler at heart. HOWEVER, it's a great way to build your card catalogue at home... and it's inexpensive fun. I made gift bags and gift cards that coordinate. How fun is that?

Here is a little information about it on my new friend Christi's Site. Check it out here - Paper Pumpkin.

You can buy past kits as well.

Anyway - I hope you enjoyed it. I sure did.

Love,  Hugs & Blessings,

Em

Friday Fun - A Couple New Cards

Happy Friday All!

It's beautiful weather here in FW and we are headed to the Aquarium, in Dallas, with friends. But before we go, I  am thrilled that I remembered to post these two cards. BUT FIRST.... let me explain to you how my craft room is organized.

I have tons of colored images. I have tons of printed images, printed sayings, etc. They are all in different boxes, etc. So while I do color new images and make cards for challenges, the first card today is an image I colored a while back - maybe even a year ago. HA

Also - when I say, in the card recipe, that I have a bin of scrap DP, and don't always identify which company it is from, this is why...

On the left is DP Scraps (little tiny to pretty big pieces). On the right is solid paper scraps. I just can't toss them. I use them all the time.[/caption]

Now onto the first card.

Card Recipe ~ Image is By Lori Designs, So Ella Five Book Worm Wilma
Ink: Copic Markers
Paper: base is PTI.  From a Scrap Pad that is all student stuff/
Ribbon: PTI Red.
Embellishments: Glossy Eye Glasses.

The link to Lori's Shop is HERE. I love her images. I just can't ever find anything. LOL I hope you have better luck!

Card #2 - The Stamping Boutique FaceBook Challenge (April):

Card Recipe ~ Image: Poppies by The Stamping Boutique
Ink: Copic Markers
Paper: base is PTI.  DP is from my scrap bin
Ribbon: Stampin Up!

I hope you are having a great day wherever you are.
